through the night

I just called Nurse Jenny and Davis held steady through the night. After those few bad hours early in the night, he seemed to level off. They weaned a little bit more on the epi (blood pressure medicine) and his oxygen a very slight bit. He's still on the jet and did need two fluid boluses after we left last night (around 1 am) to keep his pressure up. She said he has gotten very swollen (I noticed the beginnings of that yesterday) and that's probably something they'll talk about in rounds, since it's an indication that something has changed. We are going in a little early today to make rounds, since it's such a critical time for our little man.

Davis is still doing well considering what he's dealing with and there are lots of supports still available to him, even if some of them are scary to us. I felt in Jenny's voice that the "e" word might be around the corner. I hope not but of course we'll do whatever is in his best interest. We are so lucky to be at Duke, and trying so hard to continue to be positive.

This is a lot to go through for Davis. He's only been in this world four days, though I know he is stronger than we even see. Please pray extra hard for Davis today. We love you all.

-Carolyn

Don't forget to see the forrest for the trees guys. Sounds like Davis is making tiny little baby steps forwards. Be thankful for every moment. Even if it gets scary, everything Duke does will hopefully bring you closer to bringing Davis home. Have faith and call if you need us!

So we just realized that my post from 3 am and Brad's from 7 am are almost identical! We'll try to talk before we both post again :)

I will send up extra prayers today for Davis and for you guys. I can't imagine what you are going through emotionally because I have not been where you are right now, but I pray God will continue to give you strength and through you it will flow also to Davis. Call if you need anything guys and I love you both.

Carolyn, Michael and Davis -I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!

You all were in my prayers again this morning and will remain there throughout these coming days and nights. This is clearly one of those times calling out for TRUST. That sense of TRUST and GRATITUDE that has been building in your HEARTs these past months has been for a reason.

Please, remember to take care of yourselves too "mom" and "dad" - I have no doubt you and Michael would be able to keep going, fueled only with Love and Pure Will Power... But gently, please remember to get YOUR rest, EAT well, BREATHE, HOLD EACH OTHER and when you can, SHARE a HEARTFUL SMILE and some LAUGHTER.

Davis loves feeling you whole, healthy and happy.

Signed,
mom#2

Carolyn, Michael and Davis, I thinks about all of you daily and I pray for you daily. I hope by the hours that Davis improves. I know that Davis understands that you are with him and that you love him with every ounce in your body - this he knows and feels and this is his goal to be with you and he is going for the goal! I miss you and can hardly wait to see all three of you! Love you - Debbie. Larry sends his love and hope, and so does GiGi

I will be thinking of you guys today and hoping that Davis improves and no "e" words are mentioned. Thanks for sharing your life with me. It helps to read when I will be facing the same thing in about 3-4 weeks.

Hello!! Just stopped in from baby Carter's blog...my son was at Duke and on ECMO in March 2007. You guys are certainly in our prayers....Ill be checking in to see Davis' progress! Lots of love!

PS Dont be afraid of ECMO....think of it as a great way for Davis' body to relax and heal so he can get well enough to undergo his surgeries. I know its a frightening thing to hear about, but its a true life saver. My little guy wouldnt be here today if it werent for it. (((HUGS)))

You both and Davis are in my thoughts and prayers all through the day and I have shared your story with many others who have also put you in their prayers. Take deep breaths and hold on to your faith. This is definitely a scary journey but one that will soon be in the past and a more adventurous, joyous ride is ahead.

Praying that Davis has a good day and continues to make those baby steps in healing. Take each day hour by hour and cherish every moment. This journey will be one of the hardest you will have to endure and full of emotions.

To Davis, keep fighting little guy and getting stronger. Sending you lots of love.

I want you both to keep the faith and know you have a strong support system surrounding you, both at Duke and with your family and friends. Carolyn Lindsey, when I think about the strength that Davis is showing I can't help but remember our Grandmother - he comes from good stock! Our thoughts and prayers are with you, now and always. We love you so much!
